The Richmond Shakespeare Festival is not just a summer festival, but a year-round educational endeavor. This education includes outreach to create a community-wide collaboration and celebration of the life and legacy of William Shakespeare.
We regularly present touring productions of Shakespeare plays at Richmond High School for the benefit of RHS and other schools in the surrounding area. This typically includes a live production of Romeo and Juliet for 9th grade students. We have also presented Macbeth in support curricular work in the schools. During the pandemic, we facilitated alternate programming to support the teachers and students.
We also conduct public readings of Shakespeare’s plays in parks, libraries, bookstores, restaurants, and local watering holes. Everyone is invited to read aloud, or to just listen until you’re comfortable. These events are announced through social media, our website, posters, and through other public announcements. During the pandemic, these have been limited to outdoor readings in the parks, weather permitting.
The RSF partners with local schools, organizations, and businesses to achieve their goals consistent with the educational mission of the RSF. If you would like to collaborate with the RSF, please contact Ray Ontko (rayo@richmondshakes.org).
